Environmental Analysis That Supports Public Safety

The EC team can manage complex contaminated site investigations following an emergency, or more regulated sites like federal superfund, state superfund, brownfield, and state voluntary cleanup program sites. These range from acquisition due diligence support to major RCRA and CERCLA sites.

Our response culture, familiarity with remedial implementation, and risk-based decision-making lead to action-oriented approaches. EC has a strong track record of working with state regulators as advocates for our clients.

The collection of environmental samples and quality parameters is an important step in assessing the potential impact of chemical or biological constituents. Tenured Leadership During The Most Crucial Moments

During an incident, the Environmental Unit Leader (EUL) is responsible for addressing key environmental matters. The professionals at EC bring years of experience in response operations and can help you and your team better understand the roles and responsibilities of the EUL. We utilize drills and tabletop exercises to provide a realistic, hands-on approach to mastering the skills required of any ICS member. We also specialize in developing training and scenarios that are industry-specific to help guide teams to be better prepared when faced with a real emergency.

A testament to our skills in this area, EC has assisted as an EUL or Deputy EUL with nearly every significant oil release in North America since 2010. We are trusted for our ability to develop plans and processes that identify resources at risk and monitor and mitigate impacted areas.

Expert Testimony, Assistance, & Strategy from Environmental Health Specialists

EC provides client’s highly skilled and credible consultants with litigation experience in the areas of site contamination, environmental impact studies, regulatory application, ecological toxicology, air and water pollution, and other toxic tort matters. Our consultants are prepared to review and prepare expert reports, provide expert witness testimony, and alternative dispute resolution support.

We provide forensic geology and geophysics studies, liability and risk assessment, recommendations for remedy and mitigation, and production of trial exhibits.

A Trusted Assessment Team That Aids Successful Cleanups

Following an oil spill, we provide a trained team of scientists and data managers to implement a systematic approach for surveying affected shorelines.

The EC data management team has developed a mobile-friendly app that communicates field conditions in near real-time. Our Rapid Shoreline Assessment tool is used to support decision making for shoreline cleanup and provides a collaborative, consensus-building approach to data collection. Remote Assessment teams provide geo-referenced site conditions with photographs and can identify sensitive resources and support operations by evaluating and prioritizing cleanup efforts.

During a response, our assessment teams perform the following:

  • Develop cleanup guidelines and endpoints in partnership with regulatory agencies
  • Segment the shoreline
  • Conduct reconnaissance surveys
  • Evaluate and report oil type and condition
  • Identify environmentally and culturally sensitive resources and make by GPS upon discovery
  • Evaluate potential for human exposure
  • Conduct post-cleanup inspections and final evaluations for site closeout

Innovative Vapor Intrusion Studies That Save Time & Money

Vapor intrusion studies are necessary but require an innovative approach and sophisticated attention to detail. One of the largest issues complicating vapor intrusion investigations is suspect vapor intrusion compounds commonly present in indoor air from household goods and consumer products. Current indoor air sampling methods do not differentiate the source of these compounds. In some cases, these background concentrations often exceed regulatory screening levels. Misinterpretation of this data set could lead to additional costly remedial investigations and ongoing litigation.

It is paramount in these investigations to have the proper sampling tools necessary to rule out common compounds. EC scientists are trained on and utilize highly sensitive equipment, which very few consultants own, that can greatly reduce the time and expense of these investigations.
